WordPress themes that play nice with code

with 4 comments

I exhaustively searched all WordPress.com themes to find those that properly handle long text within “pre” tags. These are the ones that work:
Blix
Cutline
Fauna
Freshy
Hemingway

Unfortunately all of them are too narrow, so it’s back to Rubric for now.

All it takes is a simple “pre { overflow: auto; }” in the CSS of the theme. Why can’t the theme makers do this?!

Note: WordPress has other ways of posting source code: see Posting Source Code and announcement. I must have missed them when I wrote this post. If you use the sourcecode tag, the code is wrapped to fit the screen, but readers can click a button and get the original code.

And just for completeness, and because I spent so much damn effort going through them all, here are the ones that fail:

Banana Smoothie
