“Pictures” in LaTeX

There is a picture mode; must find out more about it sometime.
The following snippet inserts a bunch of points:

\setlength{\unitlength}{0.057mm}

\begin{picture}(2000,2000)(6000,5000)
%\put(30,28){\circle*{10}}
\put(6617,6882){\circle*{10}}
\put(7177,6436){\circle*{10}}
\put(6883,6540){\circle*{10}}
\put(6683,6958){\circle*{10}}
\put(7092,6559){\circle*{10}}
\end{picture}

Clearly, LATEX isn’t really designed for pictures, but nevertheless….
